Getting married in Florida

This is a relatively easy process. No blood tests are needed. Both parties have to be over 18 and have to get the license personally at the court house of the county where they are getting married. You need ID ( passport, drivers license or certified copies of birth certificate). The bride and groom will be required to read a marriage handbook prior to the issue of the marriage certificate. The fee is $89. You then have a window of 60 days in which to marry before the license expires. Weddings can be easily arranged at the theme parks, in beautiful garden settings at traditional white wedding chapels or even by your pool at your villa. It is generally much cheaper than marrying in the UK.

Florida Wedding License Laws

Current as at 21/02/04

To apply for a license, partners must be at least 18 years old and appear in person, together, and provide a picture ID, such as a driver's license or passport. If either party was previously married, he or she must provide the date, county, and state or country in which the divorce, dissolution or annulment was finalized. Marriage licenses must be issued by the Clerk of Courts in any Florida county; licenses from other states will not be honored. There is a three-day waiting period for Florida residents only.

How I wish I could have persuaded my daughter and her partner to marry in Florida.

We are in the midst of all the preparations now and there is so much to think about - and so much expense involved.

Say the word "wedding" and you can see the cash register flash in their eyes. £350 for a cake - hard to believe, but true!!

They even have facilities for weddings at the clubhouse at Southern Dunes, where our villa is situated. Still with two more daughters and a son, maybe one of them will be obliging and hold their wedding there. We live in hope!!

Christine

You may want to rethink that wish.

They may just decide that the Disney Wedding Chapel is the place for them. We made some enquires a year or ago for my son. I think I am just about recovering now.

The basic package for a total of 11 people was around the $3500 mark. You would of course want the fairy tale coach and Mickey to put in an appearance so with extras the smallest wedding you could do was starting the look like the deposit on a condo.

We watched one while we were there last time and if money is no object then it would be hard to beat. Back in the real world of villa ownership we settled on 200 people in the UK.

Christine,

Forgot to say, and you may know already, but a lots of the wedding shops in this country import there dresses from the U.S.

There is a wedding drees shop in the Florida Mall which sells dresses half the price of the same thing in the UK.

If your a soon to be bride you may want to check it out.

Regards Dave

If your getting married in Polk County both of you need only visit the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Polk County to apply for a marriage license. Both of you must be 18 years of age, have a valid photo identification such as a driver’s license and your Social Security number.

International visitors who wish to tie the knot in Polk County must have a valid passport and a translator, if necessary, who has a valid U.S. driver’s license. No blood tests are required for a marriage license, and there is no waiting period unless you are already a Florida resident – then you must wait three days or have proof of a pre-marital course.

Once you have the license, you can get married at any time within the next 60 days. After that, the license expires and you must get a new one.

For additional information contact:
CLERK OF THE COURTS
255 N. Broadway Ave., Bartow
863-534-4548 or 863-534-4547

We can recommend getting wed in Florida. We tied the knot in Naples and had the most fabulous time. 18 of our family members and close friends joined us and we paid for the lot. It cost at least 6 times less than it would have here. And we were guaranteed the weather!!
Our evening 3 course meal, at the finest restaurant in Naples, on stilts in the harbour, cost about £1000 in total. This is with champagne, wine, lobster, the best steaks, and two waiters dedicated to our table.
And it really is as easy as it sounds in the above posts. There really is no reason not too!

My daughter got married at the Swan and Dolphin at Disney. Same Disney hotel but without the rules and regulations. They wanted an 18mth old baby to be classed as full eating and drinking adult! They wanted a min profit of $10,000 for them so imangine how much that would have cost! Highly recommend the Swan at MGM. Even Minnie and Mickey turned up!
